+ The 6-Year Undergraduate Medicine Programme

Students enrolling at medical universities in the UK can study an undergraduate 6-Year medicine route and a graduate 4-Year medicine route for a Doctor of Medicine (MD) qualification.

Undergraduate 6-Year Programmes

This programme consists of the following medicine study routes to choose from:

  • This programme is structured into pre-clinical and clinical years.
  • Students study pre-clinical modules on-campus in the UK and Georgia for the first three years.
  • For the final three years, students undertake clinical rotations and lectures.
  • During the pre-clinical years, students attend lectures, seminars and laboratories with the first two years studied at the UK campus and the third year studied at the Georgia campus.
  • The final three years of clinical rotations and lectures are studied at hospitals and medical facilities with academics and consultants.
  • Students will complete the majority of the studies in Georgia
  • This programme is divided into pre-clinical and clinical years.
  • During the pre-clinical years, students complete a BSc degree in any accredited university (be it in the UK, the EU, or a non-EU country) in a science-related field such as Biomedical Science, Pharmacy, Nursing etc.
  • Throughout the Summer, students spend two months completing medical modules at the NVU campus in the UK or Georgia.
  • During the clinical years, you can choose to complete your clinical rotations and lectures in the UK, depending on availability.
  • Clinical rotations are completed at British and Georgian hospitals and medical facilities.
+ The 4-Year Graduate Medicine Programme
  • New Vision University offers a four-year medicine pathway for graduate students that commences in the second year of the undergraduate programme.
  • Applicants are eligible if they hold a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in a science-related field such as Biomedical Science.
  • As part of their application, candidates need to submit analytical transcripts of previously completed courses and there are no entrance exams.
  • Students spend Year One at the NVU campus in Derby, UK.
  • During Years Two to Four, the student will complete clinical rotations and lectures at British and Georgian hospitals.
+ The 5-Year Undergraduate Dentistry Programme
  • Students studying undergraduate dentistry in the UK are qualified with a globally-recognised degree in Dentistry.
  • Studies are completed on-campus in Derby, UK at the brand new dentistry campus as well as on-campus in Tbilisi, Georgia.
  • The first two years are made up of pre-clinical modules studied in the UK and the final three years are made up of clinical modules studied in dental clinics and practices.
  • For Years One and Two, the lectures, laboratories and seminars are studied at the NVU Derby campus in the UK.
  • For Years Three to Five, clinical modules are studied with lectures, dentistry training and clinical rotations at dental clinics and practices.

  • The NVU graduate dentistry programme is a competitive, accelerated degree.
  • Candidates for the programme are required to hold a science-related Bachelor’s Degree (BSc, such as biomedical science) and submit academic transcripts to apply.
  • Studies commence in the second year of the 5-Year Undergraduate Dentistry Programme.
  • For the first year, students study pre-clinical modules on-campus at the Derby UK campus of NVU.
  • For the final three years of clinical modules, students attend lectures and complete clinical rotations at dentistry clinics and practices.
  • Dentistry students will complete the majority of the studies in Georgia.
+ What are the UK Campus Study Options?
  • Pre-clinical modules will be offered on-campus in the UK at NVU in Derby.
  • NVU has secured a 44,000 sq. ft. building that is being converted to a modern UK Medicine and Dentistry Campus with pre-clinical facilities including digital zones, lecture and seminar spaces, and scientific research laboratories.
  • On-campus modules will commence at Derby in the latter half of 2021.
+ What Do the Lectures Entail?

Medicine

  • The teaching will include hands-on experience in medical practicing equipment and training in measurement, reading, and evaluating results.
  • Modules comprising practical training to ensure competency in medical machines and equipment.
  • It includes various mandatory training with equipment as resuscitation and anaphylaxis management equipment.

Dentistry

  • Lectures give dentistry students the chance to get hands-on experience with dental equipment while also providing training on how to measure, read and evaluate results.
  • Lectures will also offer practical training and up-skilling in operating the machines.
  • Lectures are also taught in clinical modules e.g. dentistry procedures (root canals, fillings, crowns, root canals and managing comprehensive dental care).

Applicants must provide the following information:

  1. An application which includes the following details: bio, education history and course for which you are applying.
  2. A copy of your secondary education results with subjects studied.
  3. Documents from your home country confirming that you are authorised to study in Georgia.
  4. Two small photos of 4-5cm.
+Admission Documents for Clinical Rotations

You will need to provide the following:

  1. Valid immigration status (i.e. you should be able to stay in the UK without a Visa)
  2. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service)
  3. Medical Screening (this is a report with vaccinations etc.)
  4. Occupational Clearance (i.e. a local GP will need to issue a letter that the student is fit to study)
  5. Register with a local GP practice
  6. Indemnity Insurance
  7. An up-to-date CV
  8. Valid transcript from previous years
  9. Logbook
  10. Nametag
  11. Prove financial capability (bank statement or a letter from parents)
  12. UK address and contact details

+Medical Council Requirements for Recognising Medicine Degrees
  • Many of the world’s Medical Councils require that the Medical School that awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) be listed on the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS.
  • Additionally, each region has its own requirements:
    • UK
      • The General Medical Council (GMC) expects a medical degree to have a minimum 5,500 Clock Hours over a minimum period of three years.
    • USA
      • The Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) requires a medical degree to have a minimum duration of four years.
    • Australia
      • The Australian Medical Council (AMC) maintains an additional database of Recognised Medical Schools.
      • It also requires a medical degree to have a minimum duration of four years.
+Dental Council Requirements for Recognising Dentistry Degrees
  • Prior to application for the Overseas Registration Exam, international dental graduates must submit a record of their clinical experience and dental degree.
  • The General Dental Council (GDC) in the UK specifies a minimum of 1600 hours of clinical experience which:
    • Comprise hours spent completing appropriate investigations and/or administering dental treatment
    • Do not comprise time spent observing dentists or assisting other dentists/dental students
  • The 1600 hours of clinical experience can be:
    • From during the dental degree,
    • During post-qualification experience, or,
    • A combination of degree and post-qualification experience

+Is Online Study Offered?
  • Online studies (distance learning studies), are not currently recognised by any of the world’s Medical Councils and Dental Councils.
  • Online study is not offered as a study option.
  • When medicine and dentistry graduates apply for registration, all Medical Councils and Dental Councils assess the evidence of studies, including online study:
    • Students are advised to have a formal explanation prepared, on request, including evidence and exception documentation for online studies completed during Covid-19.
