New GMC Registration Rules

New GMC Registration Rules

After September 2019, the GMC (General Medical Council) in the UK has set the requirements below:

  1. A maximum of two (2) transcripts can be accepted, the last transcript has to be issued at the university of graduation.
  2. All clinical modules and rotations have to be completed in the university of graduation.
  3. The minimum duration of the course has to be four (4) years.

More specifically, the degree submitted to the GMC for registration will need to be verified independently by the ECFMG (Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates), and for this the GMC uses a portal called EPIC which is managed entirely by the ECFMG. The student pays the fees for this verification service, and uploads the diploma and transcript on the portal, then within 3 months, the ECFMG will make an independent verification to check the validity and credibility of the medical degree according to their new rules as described in LINK 1 and LINK 2 at the ECFMG’s site.

New Regulations are applicable after 2023 when all Medical Schools have to be WFME approved, click HERE to find more information.
