GMC rejects BSc Degree Hours

GMC rejects BSc Degree Hours

We would like to inform Graduate Entry medical students that the General Medical Council (GMC) does NOT accept any studies that have been recognized by a Medical School from a previous BSc degree as part of the minimum 5,500 Clock Hours required to register. Students need to spend all 5,500 Clock Hours physically studying in a Medical School, please find verification from the GMC HERE.

According to the GMC’s criteria for acceptable overseas qualifications, a medical degree has to have a minimum of 5,500 Clock Hours over at least 3 years. The GMC defines Clock Hours as those hours spent only in Lectures, Tutorials (Seminar Classes) and Clinical Training and does NOT recognize any hours spent in exams, carrying out independent work or attending online studies (exceptions apply during the pandemic). The definition of Clock Hours can be found on GMC’s Guidelines (page 7).

To avoid disappointment when applying for registration with the GMC, we would highly recommend that students studying for Graduate Entry degrees are enrolled at Universities which offer at least the minimum number of hours. Very few Medical Schools in Georgia offer the required Clock Hours in a Graduate Entry medical course and none in any other Eastern European country.
