Preclinical training gradually shifts the focus of studies to clinical application by correlating the information from preclinical subjects to their application into medical practice, and clinical practice gradually becomes more focused by the 3rd year of study. Subsequently, the programme enters a phase with a stronger emphasis on clinical experience and surgery, as well as preventive medicine. What is more, every summer, from the 1st until the 5th year of studies, students must work in university affiliated hospitals, medical centres or clinics as part of their summer practice for a minimum of 4 weeks per year (20 days, 8 hours/day = 160 hrs), amounting to at least 800 hours over the span of five years. Lastly, during their 6th year of studies, students have to write a dissertation based on personal research on a topic assigned with their instructor and can opt for an internship or rotation practice.

In general, Seminars, practical training, laboratory work and research assignments comprise the teaching methodology of Romanian Medical Universities. There are several Medical Clinics all over Romania associated with each Medical school. The programme culminates with a final State licensing examination, upon successful completion of which the Degree awarded confers upon the holder all the rights and privileges of a Medical Doctor (MD).
